Now that week one of the regular season is in the books, it's time to scrounge around the waiver wire in your fantasy football leagues for players whose stock is rising. Or even think about making a trade or two if you have the players. Players like DeSean Jackson and John Ross III certainly made an impression and could be reliable contributors. Expect them to be highly coveted, but what about players on the San Francisco 49ers?
Outside of George Kittle and even Tevin Coleman, most 49ers players should be available for pick up. The only question is which 49ers player raised their fantasy football stock following week one? Now I know what the easy answer may feel like because they dominated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jameis Winston. The 49ers D/ST certainly raised their stock, but they didn't raise it the most.
They're not going to face a terrible quarterback like Winston every week and return interceptions for touchdowns. Consider picking them up, but the 49ers player that raised their stock the most is running back Matt Breida. He didn't have an explosive game against the Buccaneers, mainly because he was gone for a good portion of the game to receive an I.V. treatment.
Breida's stock is at an all time high because of the injury to Tevin Coleman. Coleman is expected to be out for the foreseeable due to a high ankle sprain. So that means Breida will see an increase in volume. Sure, there is Raheem Mostert who will be there to share some of duties, but I doubt he'll be splitting a fare share of them like if Coleman were there.
Mostert will be there just spell Breida at times to keep him fresh if he is being used heavily. Considering how the Seattle Seahawks attacked the Cincinnati Bengals with their running backs, I expect the 49ers to do a bit of the same since it worked out well. Breida taking over as RB1 is nothing new to him since he was the featured back last season.
So we know Breida is capable of being the workhorse and producing. He'll likely even put up better numbers since he is more embedded with this team. For those in PPR leagues, you just hope he gets called upon heavily for screens and easy swing passes. I fully anticipate Breida putting up double digit points in fantasy. He's definitely deserving of the flex slot of your line up. Try to pick him up if he is available or even the 49ers D/St if you can.
