Injury/practice report: Alabama gears up for Gamecocks

Crimson Tide begins to turn attention to South Carolina

Alabama was back outside for practice on Monday afternoon, preparing for its SEC opener.

It was 94 degrees and sunny when practice began.

The forecast for Saturday’s game at South Carolina is high of 91 degrees with isolated thunderstorms. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain.

Alabama offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor Jr. (knee) remained out. He was at practice, but wasn’t going through drills.

Among the defensive linemen, true freshman Justin Eboigbe (foot) was practicing but Antonio Alfaro was not.

Junior safety Xavier McKinney has been wearing a cast on his hand.

“It’s good,” he said. “Just a little bruised up.”

Reporters didn’t get to see the first-team offensive line, but Landon Dickerson was drilling next to right tackle Jedrick Wills Jr.

Behind them, Matt Womack was next to Amari Knight, also on the right side.

Chris Owens was practicing after not playing against New Mexico State.

• Senior interior linebacker Josh McMillon: Out indefinitely with a knee injury.

• Freshman running back Trey Sanders: Out indefinitely with a left foot injury. He’s still using a small cart to keep weight of his foot.
