Tennessee quarterback discusses his admiration for his Alabama counterpart and his family

HOOVER, Ala. — Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano spoke in-depth about Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at SEC Media Days on Tuesday afternoon.

The redshirt junior discussed his friendship with the Crimson Tide junior, as well as expressed his admiration for family and football talent.

“Me, Tua and his brother have a good relationship,” Guarantano said. “I’ve been able to be around his family a long time now.”

The pair first met at a football camp back when both boys were just starting out learning the game.

“I actually went to quarterback camp with Tua when I was in third or fourth grade,” Guarantano said. “We were in the same grade at one point. It was cool.”

Guarantano had nothing but positive things to say about Tagovailoa and his family.

“I think that whole family is really good people and I really like Tua’s game,” Guarantano said. “I think he’s a great player and just the whole family ... really loving each other and being around good people. They truly are.”

Guarantano went on to discuss Tagovailoa and his potential to win the Heisman in 2019. Tagovailoa was a Heisman finalist last season, finishing second in the voting process to Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray.

“Tua is a young player in the sense that he’s only going to get better and I think that he has a good team around him,” Guarantano said. “I think he’s crafting right now and getting back to doing those things and he’s a great person. I wish the best of success for him.”
