TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It’s hard to believe that Alabama’s training camp opens in a week, with the first practice set for Friday, followed by Fan Day on Saturday.
So as we’re sort of in that final limbo time, between SEC media days and the team officially reporting, here are five predictions I’m making about the 2019 season.
1] Clemson will not run the table.
It’s one thing to go undefeated, but quite another to do so in the spotlight of being the reigning national champion. The last team to successfully do so was Nebraska in 1995.
Clemson is an outstanding team and the clear favorite to win the ACC for a fifth straight year. To try and go wire-to-wire as No. 1 is a little different though, which the Tigers are about to learn.
2] Alabama will extended its streak of being No. 1 at some point of the season.
The Crimson Tide has done so every year since 2008, an NCAA record.
3] Tua Tagovailoa will become the first quarterback in history to finish a season with a 200 passer rating.
He just missed last season at 199.4
4] He will also become the first quarterback in Crimson Tide history to win the Heisman Trophy.
and finally 5] which is something many of you have already heard me say before during the offseason:
Alabama’s defense will reclaim its place as being among the best, if not the best, in the nation. The 2011 team managed to finish No. 1 in total, scoring, rushing and pass-efficiency defense, becoming just the second team in college football history to pull off the accomplishment.
Barring a bunch of major injuries, this year’s team will make a run at becoming the third.
