Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT Thursday, December 27 at NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans. The game will be televised by ESPN and streamed by WatchESPN.
Baylor became bowl eligible after beating Texas Tech 35-24 in the regular season closer on November 24. Baylor went 4-5 in the conference and 6-6 overall in the 2018 season. Rhule stated Baylor’s homecoming win over Oklahoma State (35-31) proved pivotal in looking to bowl eligibility for this season.
Vanderbilt met bowl eligibility with their win against in-state rival Tennessee (38-13). The Commodores went 3-5 SEC and 6-6 overall this season. The Texas Bowl will mark Vanderbilt’s ninth all-time appearance.
This is the first time both teams have been bowl eligible since 2016. The Bears and the Commodores have not met on the field since Baylor’s 25-19 win in 1954.
