The Baylor mens basketball team had a big time good news/bad news day on Sunday as the Bears landed four-star national top 100 guard Jared Butler, but also found out Jake Lindsey will redshirt for the upcoming season following hip surgery.

Lindsey made the announcement via Twitter.

Butler, a 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 27 points with 8.8 rebounds and 8.4 assists as a senior at Riverside Academy in Reserve, La., will enroll in school for the fall semester. Its unclear at the moment whether or not he will be immediately eligible.

One this is certain, Baylor needs Butler as soon as they can get him. With Lindsey out for the season, the Bears are now down five of their top seven players in terms of minutes played from last season. Furthermore, while Lindsey scored just 4.5 points per game, he averaged 3.4 assists and was a floor leader.

Head coach Scott Drew has his work cut out in putting together a lineup for the 2018-19 campaign. Butler will join a cast of nine incoming freshmen or transfers that will try to fit in with returning contributors Mark Vital, Tristan Clark and King McClure.
