In football, everyone is always looking for the next key player to rise up on their team. The Bengals were decimated with injuries last year, and already lost their 1st round pick, Jonah Williams, for what may be the entire 2019 season.
Not all hope is lost, however. Some players have a chance to step up and be major contributors for the Bengals this season. Here are three Cincinnati Bengals who are poised for breakout seasons in 2019:
Though he is currently listed as the 4th wide receiver on the Bengals initial depth chart, Josh Malone will have a chance to breakout this year. Malone could be the benefactor of injuries to A.J. Green and John Ross.
Josh Malone is entering his third NFL season, but had just one catch last year in nine games. Malone possesses a similar frame and skill set to former Bengals receiver, Marvin Jones. He will get the first look with A.J. Green out, and will have a chance to impress under Zac Taylor's new offense.
Billy Price is a former first round pick in 2018, but the center was plagued by nagging injuries as a rookie. As a result, he didn't fare well in terms of his grade from Pro Football Focus last season. Price received the 4th lowest grade among qualifying centers with a score of 49.4 overall.
This is a new year for Billy Price, and a chance to redeem himself. Price was a highly touted prospect coming out of Ohio State in 2018, and will have a chance to show why the Bengals invested the 21st overall pick in him. Look for him to have a breakout season in 2019.
Hubbard somewhat broke out already in his rookie season with a 6.0 sack performance. However, it's possible the former Ohio State edge defender could have an even better sophomore campaign.
Hubbard ranked in as the 51st best edge defender from PFF last season - above players like Dante Fowler Jr., Clay Mathews, and Harold Landry. His 67.4 overall season grade was just below former 5th overall pick, Bradley Chubb (68.1), and Vikings defensive end, Everson Griffen. Hubbard is listed as the starting right defensive end this year on the Bengals first depth chart, and he will have the chance to prove himself early.
