The Cincinnati Bengals locked up one of their wide receivers for the foreseeable future, but it wasn't A.J. Green.
Despite being a Pro Bowl receiver 7 of 8 seasons and entering the final year of his contract, A.J. Green has yet to receive an offer from Cincinnati.
Instead, the Bengals elected to lock up Tyler Boyd. The former 2nd round draft choice was set to enter the final year of his rookie deal that would have earned him $980K in base salary this year.
Boyd received a 4-year, $43M deal from the Bengals that locks him up through 2023. A.J. Green is left without a deal as of now.
Green will turn 31-years old on July 31st, and it's possible that the Bengals could let him walk after the 2019 season. Though he has been fantastic for Cincinnati, new head coach, Zac Taylor may look to go a different direction, and let Green test the market.
A.J. Green has been one of the best receivers in the league over the past decade, and it would be hard to see one of the staples of the Bengals franchise leave the team.
There is still time for the Bengals to get a deal done with Green, but locking up Boyd while he is still under a rookie contract is telling. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for A.J. Green.
