Maryland, Arkansas, Baylor reportedly among the schools showing interest in Cal's 7-foot-3 freshman

Cal's 7-foot-3 freshman Connor Vanover is hearing from some high-class schools since entering his name in the transfer portal.

According to Eric McDonough of Bear Insider, Baylor, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Maryland, TCU, Vanderbilt and Tulsa are among the schools showing interest.

Vanover plans to make some campus visits in the near future and hopes to make a decision by the middle of next month. Cal is still in the picture.

Vanover's mother said a few weeks ago that her son is just checking things out, but you can see why some elite schools are interested.

Players who are 7-foot-3 and can hit three-pointers are not easy to find, and Vanover is such a player. He averaged just 7.5 points and made 35.5 percent of his three-point shots for the season, but he improved throughout the season. Over the final four games, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 blcoks while shooting 50 percent from three-point range (9-for-18). He was particualry impressive in a 24-point effort against Stanford, and Cardinal coach Jerod Haase took notice..

After just one collegiate season, schools might be drooling over what Vanover might become in a year or two. Big men typically take longer to develop, so schools are looking at a high ceiling for Vanover.
