Two days after Cal introduced Mark Fox as its new basketball coach, the program’s best player may be leaving.
Sophomore Justice Sueing, the team’s top scorer and rebounder last season, has entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal, a Cal spokesperson confirmed. The news was first reported by Rivals.com.
The move by Sueing, a 6-foot-7 forward from Honolulu, does not guarantee he is leaving but gives him the freedom to explore other options. Sueing is the second Cal sophomore to enter into the transfer portal, following guard Darius McNeill last week.
But Sueing certainly sounded like a young man on the move in his Twitter announcement on Wednesday:
Sueing is the Bears’ best and most versatile player. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds during the team’s 8-23 campaign. He also had 60 assists and 52 steals, and over two seasons has started 61 games and scored 886 points.
His loss would be significant for a team that will be trying to find its way in Fox’s debut campaign.
