Reserve forward becomes third Cal player to put his name into the NCAA transfer portal

Redshirt junior forward Roman Davis has become the third Cal basketball player to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Davis follows sophomores Justice Sueing and Darius McNeill, who stated their intentions on Wednesday and last week, respectively. McNeill put his name on the transfer list before Mark Fox was hired, but Sueing did so two days after Fox was introduced on Monday.

While Sueing is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder and McNeill the program’s most prolific 3-point shooter, Davis is a bench player whose departure would have minimal impact.

Davis has played 55 career games for the Bears, averaging 1.5 points and shooting 33 percent from the field. He started two games this season for former coach Wyking Jones, who cited the energy he brought on defense.

But the 6-foot-7 native of Carson provides little on offense. In 16 games this season, he totaled 21 points and shot 28 percent from the field and 27 percent from the free throw line.

Players who enter their names into the transfer portal are not committed to leaving, but have the freedom to transfer or return to their original school.
