Cal Basketball Video: Mark Fox on Building a Program vs. Building a Team

Bears' new coach knows this will be a grind, but isn't interested in a quick fix that may not last

New Cal basketball coach Mark Fox has cautioned fans that the program's rebuild won't happen at the snap of the fingers. This will take some time.

Events of recent days will only make things tougher still. Forward Justice Sueing, the team's best and most versatile player as a sophomore last season, has transferred to Ohio State. Freshman center Connor Vanover is mulling opportunities with Vanderbilt and Arkansas, although he apparently still may decide to remain in Berkeley.

Either way, Fox says getting the Bears back to where they want to be and keeping them there is the difference between patching together a team that can appease fans for a year and creating something that is lasting and productive.

In the video above, recorded before Sueing's decision, Fox discusses the big picture, including all the complicating factors involved in the process.
