CAL-UCLA HISTORY: UCLA leads the alltime series 53-23, and the Bruins have won the last four games against Cal, including an 84-79 overtime victory over the Bears in Berkeley on January 4.
CAL STORYLINES: The Bears have lost four straight games, their longest losing streak since the 2016-17 season, when they also lost four in a row. Cal lost to USC 86-76 on Friday, when the Trojans outscored the Bears 17-4 over the final five minutes. . . . The Bears’ RBI ranking dropped from 34 to 40 following the loss to the Trojans. Presumably Cal would still get an NCAA Tournament bid if selections were made today, but it is starting to get dicey . . . Cal is currently tied with USC for eighth place in the Pac-12 . . . Cal center Kristine Anigwe had 30 points and 14 rebounds in the loss to USC and is averaging 23.1 points and 15.8 rebounds. She needs 10 points to tie Lisa Leslie (USC) for fifth place on the Pac-12 career scoring list, and Anigwe needs four rebounds to tie Chantel Osahor (Washington) for fifth place in Pac-12 career rebounding. She would need 14 boards to match Jayne Appel (Stanford) for fourth and 17 rebounds to tie Kayla Pedersen (Stanford) for third.
UCLA STORYLINES: The Bruins had their six-game winning streak halted on Friday by No. 10 Stanford, which beat UCLA 65-51 . . . During its winning streak, UCLA beat two ranked teams (Arizona State and Utah) on the road . . . The Bruins have a better record in road games (7-2) than they do at home (8-5) . . . Michaela Onyenwere is the Bruins’ leading scorer at 17.6 points per game, and she had 29 points when UCLA beat Cal in overtime last month in Berkeley. Onyenwere had 21 points in Friday’s loss to Stanford and is averaging 20.4 points in Pac-12 games. . . . The Bruins are not a good shooting team, hitting just 29.8 percent of their three-point attempts. They were 2-for-12 from beyond the arc against Stanford and shot just 27.5 percent from the field overall.
