Cal’s 18th-ranked women’s basketball team used a strong third quarter to end San Diego’s upset bid in a 70-53 victory over the Toreros in San Diego on Saturday.
The Bears improved to 6-0 with the win, and now have eight days off before hosting Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Dec. 2.
Cal and San Diego (2-3) were tied 29-29 at halftime, but Kristine Anigwe scored 16 seconds in the third quarter to give the Bears a lead they never lost. Cal built its lead to 14 points by the end of the third quarter and coasted in from there.
Anigwe led the Bears with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting and added 16 rebounds. She was the only Cal player in double figures. Asha Thomas added nine points.
Cal shot 56 percent from the field and limited the Toreros to 35.1 percent shooting.
