Freshman McKenzie Forbes spent most of the postgame intreview session wiping tears from her eyes. She had been a major component of Cal's overtime victory over Arizona, and she was unable to hold in the emotion.
The Bears rallied from a 20-point, second-half deficit to pull out an 82-76 overtime victory, and Forbes hit a number of big shots. All 17 of her points came in the fourth quarter and overtime, and her three-pointers on consecutive Cal possessions late in the overtime period gave the Bears a lead they never lost.
Forbes had played less than six minutes in Friday's victory over No. 17 Arizona State, and she went scoreless in that game. In fact, Forbes had been scoreless in each of her three previous games, and she was scoreless after three quarters of Sunday's game.
She made 5 of 6 three-point shots for the game, but the biggest ones came late in the extra session. Her three-point shot with 1:47 left in overtime put the Bears up by a point. And after Aari McDonald scored to put Arizona back on top by a point, Forbes drilled another three-point shot with 1:04 remaining to put the Bears ahead to stay.
Thus the tears. She figures Recee' Caldwell will make fun of her for crying.
