Cal Football Video: Garbers Acknowledges He Had Arm Problem Late Last Season

Third-year sophomore QB figures his arm is stronger this season

Chase Garbers was officially named Cal's starting quarterback for the opener against UC Davis next Saturday, but he also confirmed a San Francisco Chronicle report posted earlier this week that he had some arm problems late last season because of all the reps he took with just two quarterbacks available.

"Yeah, that was a factor last year," Garbers said. "I don't think my arm was capable or ready to take that many reps or throw that many passes because at the end of the year we only had two quarterbacks on our depth chart (Garbers and Chase Forrest).

"Getting used to that, after one year, my arm is definitely a lot stronger."

According to the Chronicle story, late last season Cal might call for Garbers to throw a 40-yard pass and he knew he could not get it there.

He seems to be making all the deep throws in fall camp, though.
