Cal Football Video: Is the Mean Green Defense Better Than It's Looked So Far?

North Texas has allowed 80 points in its first two games, but Cal Beau Baldwin says they can be dangerous

North Texas, best known for its explosive offense, actually played pretty solid defense a year ago while winning nine games.

The Mean Green allowed just 24.1 points per game and, using an aggressive style that involved lots of blitzing, collected 18 interceptions.

But North Texas has allowed 80 points in its first two games -- 31 points in a win over FCS foe Abilene Christian and 49 in a loss to SMU.

Cal offensive coordinator, who watches more game tape than we do, said the Mean Green defense can still bare its teeth.

"They're talented. They've got some guys who run around," Baldwin said, citing defensive end Ladarius Hamilton (No. 2), along with their linebackers and cornerbacks.
