Cal Baseball Video: How Bears Coach Maximizes the Use of Lefty Armon Sabouri

Cal head coach Mike Neu will send Sabouri to the bound to start Friday's home game against No. 2 Stanford

Cal will start Armon Sabouri in Friday's opener of a three-game home series against No. 2 Stanford, but even if he blows though the Cardinal lineup, Sabouri probably won't go more than two inninogs.

Although Sabouri leads the Pac-12 in starts with 14, he is really what is known as an "opener," a reliever who begins the game, pitches the first inning or two and then departs.

Bears head coach Mike Neu notes in the video above that Sabouri might start two of the three games against Stanford this weekend, although that remains to be seen.

Sabouri has flourished in his role. In his last 11 appearances, covering 19 2/3 innings, he has allowed one run for an 0.46 ERA over that stretch. Of those 11 appearances, seven were starts.
