Frank Lampard responds to criticism of young players from Jose Mourinho

Chelsea were rightly criticised for some of their performance against Manchester United, but Frank Lampard wasn’t too happy with Jose Mourinho’s comments on his younger members of the squad.

Lampard opted for a side at Old Trafford which was the youngest side Chelsea had fielded in almost seven years.

Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Andreas Christensen were all given starts, but Jose Mourinho picked them out at the end of the game as weaknesses to the visitors’ side on Sunday.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho said: “Look at the performance of Mason Mount, of Tammy Abraham, Christensen even, for matches of this dimension you need a little bit more."

Head coach Frank Lampard heard the comments and was shocked, and responded to the former Chelsea manager’s comments.

“He didn’t like the performance of Mason Mount? He said that? I can’t drag people out of the medical room to play.

“We were clearly better team but we made individual errors. Not concerned about what anyone else says. I believe in this squad."

Chelsea have plenty of their squad to return from injuries, including Willian, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James.

Mason Mount and Andreas Christensen had decent performances for Chelsea, Abraham wasn’t at his best. So for the most part, not sure what game Jose Mourinho was watching.
