Sun Devil Alliance: Ross' TD streak continues in Hotshots loss
For the first time in their history, the Arizona Hotshots lost a game.
The Salt Lake Stallions got revenge at home by winning 23-15 at home on Saturday.
Former Sun Devil Rashad Ross scored the Hotshots' only touchdown in the game. He has caught a touchdown in each of the Hotshots' three games. He finished the game with six receptions and 51 yards.
Ross' touchdown tied the game 9-9 going into halftime. The Stallions held the Hotshots to only three points in the second half.
The Sun Devil laden Hotshots defense failed to intercept the quarterback for the second straight game. Will Sutton and Robert Nelson combined for 10 tackles.
The Hotshots lost their starting quarterback in the second half due to an injury. John Wolford suffered a back injury after taking a hit on an interception thrown on the first play of the third quarter.
Trevor Knight, the team’s first pick in the Alliance Protect-or-Pick Quarterback Draft, took over and threw for only 95 yards and the Hotshots scored only six points on field goals.
"You are preached in the meeting room that you are one snap away," Knight said. "And that snap happened. I thought we did a couple of good things but obviously not enough to come out on top, which is disappointing."
Wolford's injury was labeled a strain, head coach Rick Neuheisel said, and there was no immediate update on his status going forward. Which means there's a good chance Knight will start on Week 4 as the Hotshots return home to take on Atlanta.
"There are things we need to continue to improve upon," Neuheisel said of Knight, "but there's no question I trust him."
