Dallas will turn kicking duties over to Brett Maher, saving almost $3M.

Well, there goes seven seasons of mostly flawless field goal kicking out the door.

In the surprise move of the day, the Cowboys released Dan Bailey on Saturday as they whittled their roster down to 53. All Bailey has done for Dallas since 2011 is make 88.2 percent of his kicks and score 832 points with a Pro Bowl in 2015 to his credit.

Last season, Bailey's FG percentage dropped to 75 percent as he was dealing with a groin injury. He had a shaky spell in training camp, but still no one with eyes on the program expected him to be cut on Saturday.

So the Dan Bailey era is over for the Cowboys and the Brett Maher era begins when it comes to field goals and extra points. We'll see what difference it makes on the scoreboard. But we do know that it's going to save the club almost $3 million in salary this season.
