GAME PLAN TV: Cowboys vs. Eagles kicks off must-win December

Dallas can gain a firm upper hand in NFC East by defeating the Eagles.

For high school football teams in the state of Texas, surviving and advancing in the playoffs past Thanksgiving means it’s been a good season.

In college football, a program’s success or failure is pretty much decided by early December at the latest.

But in the NFL, the goal is to play relevant games through the month of December. And that’s where the Dallas Cowboys have arrived.

By winning four straight, including a statement 13-10 victory over New Orleans last week, Dallas has taken a one-game lead in the NFC East with four contests remaining on the regular-season slate.

First up, the Cowboys host the Eagles on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium. A win over Philadelphia would give Dallas firm command of the division. An Eagles win would tie the two teams atop the NFC East.

Dallas’s final three regular season games include a road trip to Indianapolis, a home date versus Tampa Bay and the finale at the Giants. Philadelphia’s last 3 looks a lot tougher as the Eagles travel to play the Rams, host the Texans and finish on the road against the Redskins.

If all that looks like it’s leaning in the Cowboys favor, add this intangible to the equation: Dak Prescott seems to be at his best the more the Cowboys gain momentum as a team. He solidified his place as the starting QB during a 10-game winning streak in 2016 and he has 7 total TDs with 0 interceptions in Dallas’s current 4-game run.
