The Atlanta Falcons are amazingly healthy considering that they played their starters in the first half of both the second and third preseason games.
Heading into Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings the only player on the Falcons injury list is tackle Matt Gono with a back injury. Gono was limited in practice Wednesday and didn’t practice on Thursday and Friday.
Fortunately, the Falcons have been able to activate rookie Kaleb McGary. According to head coach Dan Quinn both McGary and Ty Sambrailo will share time at right tackle against the Vikings.
For Minnesota, cornerback Mike Hughes has been listed as out. Hughes is still in the process of working his way back from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 6 last season.
Two players for the Vikings are listed as questionable. The first is tight end Tyler Conklin. He injured his ribs in practice on Friday but is still expected to be in uniform and available to play.
The injured player that will directly impact the game is wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is on the Vikings list as questionable with a hamstring injury. Without Diggs, Minnesota only has Josh Doctson and two rookies, Chad Beebe and Olabisi Johnson to line up opposite Pro Bowl receiver Adam Thielen.
That gives the Falcons a chance to let Desmond Trufant trail Thielen all game and takes some of the pressure off new starting cornerback Isaiah Oliver.
From a fantasy perspective, without Diggs guaranteed on the field against the Falcons, Week 1 would be a time when you want to sit your Vikings receivers. The injury also should be a decider for anybody who has been considering taking the Vikings -3.5 this weekend. Right now, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the road dogs come away with a victory in Minnesota.
