Game Report: Wednesday, Ubaldo Jimenez Takes First Step in Return to Rockies

The Colorado Rockies came back to defeat the Rangers 4-3 at Salt River Fields on Wednesday, their second last-at-bat win of the Spring (also: Feb. 24 vs. Cleveland), Held to one run on three hits through seven innings, infielder/ outfielder Bret Boswell put the Rockies in the lead with a go-ahead three-run home run to left field.

Rockies Pitcher Notes

RHP Ubaldo Jiménez made his first appearance in a Rockies uniform since July 30, 2011, and pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts. He threw 21 pitches, 14 for strikes.

RHP José Mujica made his first appearance in a Rockies uniform after he signed with the Rockies as a Major League free agent on Nov. 27, 2017. I was also his first appearance in any game since 2018 after he missed the 2019 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. He pitched two innings and allowed one run on one hit with one walk and no strikeouts.

LHP James Pazos tossed 1.2 scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout. He has allowed no hits and no runs in two Spring appearances.

RHP Tyler Kinley, acquired via waivers in the offseason, pitched a scoreless ninth inning, his second scoreless innings of the Spring.

Rockies Hitter Notes

Nolan Arenado recorded his first hit of Spring, a double to left field in the first inning.

Charlie Blackmon also recorded his first Cactus League hit, a single to center field.

Bret Boswell hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Rockies a 4-3 lead. After going 0-for-1 in the first game of Spring, he has gone 6-for-8 with one double, one home run and six RBI. He also had a three-RBI game Monday vs. Cleveland.

Alan Trejo, attending his first Major League Spring Training as a non-roster invitee, broke up the Rangers’ shutout bid with an RBI double in the seventh inning.
