Kyle Freeland took the first of step of his anticipated regrouping to return to the big leagues with AAA Albuquerque on Thursday night. He gave up four runs in five innings on nine hits, walking four and striking out two in a 4-2 loss. Former Royals No. 1 draft Bubba Starling hit a home run.
Freeland threw 96 pitches in the six innings, 57 for strikes.
Charlie Blackmon, meawhile, made his second and final rehab assignment appearance for the Iostopes and was 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. He went 2-for-3 on Wednesday. He will rejoin the Rockies in New York on Friday and be reassesed in his rehab from a strained right calf.

AAA Albuquerque (27-34) lost 4-1 at Omaha (Royals). Yonathan Daza (.371) was 2-for-4 and drove in the Isotopes only run. Peter Mooney (.227) singled and scored the run. Noel Cuevas (.338) was 2-for-4 with a double.
AA Hartford (34-24) won 9-3 against Trenton (Yankees). Colton Welker (.304) was 2-for-5 with his sixth home run, a three-run shot in the Yard Goats' five-run second inning. Tyler Nevin (.226) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run. Jack Wynkoop (5-5, 3.30) allowed three runs on six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven in seven innings.
High A Lancaster (29-29) won 9-3 at Rancho Cucamonga (Dodgers). Antonio Santos (2-3, 4.11) pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk, striking out eight. Matt Hearn (.323), Sean Bouchard (.281) and Todd Czinege (.271) drove in two runs apiece. Hearn was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Bouchard hit his fifth home run. Czinege doubled home two runs.
Low A Asheville (25-35) lost 6-2 at Charleston (Yankees). Alfredo Garcia (1-5, 7.33) allowed four runs on four hits and four walks, striking out six in three innings. Daniel Montano (.230) hit a two-run home run, and Terrin Vavra (.324) was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
