The Rockies looked at Jeff Hoffman as a potential answer to a need in the rotation. They were counting on a return of Chris Rusin from two years ago, when he was a dependable left-handed jack-of-all-trades in the bullpen. And they felt Harrison Musgrave could fill left-handed bullpen needs.

The three, however, find themselves at Triple-A Albuquerque, struggling to re-establish themselves.

After the Isotopes' 16-3 loss to Las Vegas on Friday night, Hoffman, who gave up seven runs in five innings, has an 8.01 ERA. Russin, who gave up four runs and retired two batters saw his ERA climb to 7.90. And Musgrave, on a medical rehab assignment, gave up two runs while retiring two batters, raising his ERA to 8.44, and leaving him with four runs on eight hits and a walk to score for his last 2 1/3 innings of work.
