Farm Report: Valaika Wastes No Time Making an Impact in Return to AAA

Pat Valaika isn't wasting time pouting.

Sent back to AAA Albuquerque during the weekend, he is 5-for-10 in his first two games back with the Isotopes, giving him a .354 batting average at AAA this season, where he also has nine home runs and 17 RBI in 19 games.

Things haven't gone as well with the Rockies, where he has been in a backup role instead of playing regularly. Valika is 2-for-29 with 15 strikeouts in 17 games with the Rockies.

In Sunday's games:

AAA Albuquerque (23-21) won 5-4 against El Paso (D-backs). The Isotopes rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Sam Hilliard (.240) doubled home two runs, and Drew Weeks (.227) followed with a two-run, pinch-hit home run. James Pazos (1-0, 9.45) was credited with the win, and Jairo Diaz (0.45) earned his sixth save, walking one and striking out one in the ninth. Peter Lambert (5.70) started and allowed four runs on nine hits, striking out four in seven innings.

AA Hartford (24-19) won 5-4 in 10 innings against New Hampshire (Blue Jays). Alexander Guillen (1-1, 0.75) worked three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk, striking out two, for the win. Jack Wynkoop (3.12) started and allowed four runs on eight hits, striking out five, in six innings. Colton Welker (.318) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Tyler Nevin (.222) hit his second home run.

High A Lancaster (22-20) was rained out for the second day in a row at Visalia.

Low A Asheville (15-27) lost 7-5 at Lexington (Royals). Danny Edgeworth (.220) hit a two-run home run, and Grant Lavigne (.221) had a two-run single. Shelby Lackey (1-5, 5.15) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out five, in 4 2/3 innings.
