Updated Farm Report: Four Asheville Tourists Selected to SAL All-Star Game

Asheville shortstop Terrin Vavra was selected as the starting shortstop for the South Team in the Low-A South Atlantic League All-Star Game, and three of his teammates -- Willie MacIver, Alexander Martinez and Jake Bird -- were added to the South roster.

Vavra ranks sixth in the SAL with a .318 batting average, and is in the top 10 in the league in runs, hits, doubles, extra-base hits, total bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Vavra has a pair of four-hit games this season and had a career-high six RBI in an April 9 contest against Charleston.

MacIver is one of three Southern Division catchers headed to West Virginia for the All-Star Game. MacIver, has played in 52 games for the Tourists and is batting .253 with a team-high eight home runs and a team-high 34 RBI. MacIvr is also tied for the team lead in stolen bases with nine.

Martinez, Asheville’s closer, leads the league in saves with 11. Martinez recorded eight of his 11 saves in the month of May and has 37 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched.

Bird will also be a part of the bullpen. Bird is third on the team in appearances with 22 and has allowed only 31 hits in 37 total innings. He is tied for the team lead in wins and has a solid 3.11 ERA on the season. Opposing hitters are batting just .237 against the right-hander from Valencia, CA.

In Monday's Games:

Niko Decolati is making up for lost time in a hurry. He made his 2018 debut at Low-A Asheville on Sunday with two hits, an RBI and run scored. And for an encore? On Monday, the Boulder native who went to high school in Las Vegas and college at Pepperdine drove in three runs in the Tourists' 9-8 loss to Augusta (Giants).

Asheville was the only Rockies farm team to play on Monday.

Grant Lavigne (.247) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the Tourists' loss. Nick Bush (3-4, 5.65) started and suffered the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits in four innings.

AAA Albuquerque (27-31) opens a three-game series at Omaha (Royals) on Tuesday. AA Hartford (27-28) opens a three-game sereis at Trenton. And High A Lancaster (27-28) will open a three-game series against Rancho Cucamona (Dodgers).
