Jon Gray takes the mound against the Phillies Friday night having won his last three decsions. He also has won his last two starts against the Phillies, allowing just one run in 13 innings. That includes an April 21 start at Coors Field when he gav eup two hits in six shutout innings.
Cole Irvin will be making his second big-league start. He is coming off an impressive effort in his debut at Kansas City last weekend, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, striking out five, in seven innings.
Gray has extensive experience against the Phillies lineup, starting with Andrew McCutchen, whohas a career .471 batting average against him, but has never driven in a run against Gray. Out of 131 career at-bats against Gray, the only home runs hit by a current member of the Phillies were delivered by Rhys Hoskins, who is 1-for-7 against Gray, and Scott Kingery, who is 1-for-5.
Irvin has never faced anyone on the Rockies lineup at the big-league level.
