Jeff Hoffman is coming off his first big-league win in 10 starts, dating back to a 13-4 win against the New York Mets on July 16, 2017. He had gone nine starts in the big leagues without a victory before chalking up the win last week against the Diamondbacks, when he allowed three runs in five innings. Veteran Kyle Hendricks will take the mound for the Cubs. He is 2-3 in his career against the Rockies. He won his first start ever against them on May 7, 2014, and then went five starts without a win against them until the Cubs won 16-5 at Coors Field on April 20 last year. The Rockies beat the Cubs and Hendricks at Wrigley Field, 3-1, on May 1, 2018.
The current Cubs have hit only .229 against Hoffman, but the big bats have had success -- Kris Bryant (3-for-5, 2 HR), and Anthony Rizzo (2-for-6). Current Rockies have hit .299 against Hendricks, led by Daniel Murphy who in hitting .364 against Hendricks has two doubles and four home runs among his eight hits.
