A fifth-generation native of Southeast Wyoming, Ringolsby celebrated his 50th year in journalism on May 1, 2018. He began as the sports editor/one-man staff of the Wyoming State Tribune the day after he turned 17. He retired from the business last January to set out on his own, and created Welcometo7220, which focuses on University of Wyoming athletics, and also InsidetheSeams.com, a Rockies' focused baseball site. His honors include being honored at the 2006 Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony as the recipient of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award. He has an honorary doctorate in letters from the University of Wyoming, was inducted into the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame. He is the only sports writer nominated for Colorado Press Association Shining Star Award, which he was presented in 2000. Ringolsby and his wife, Jane, leave northwest of Cheyenne with their five horses. His daughter, Laramie, and grandson, Scout, live in Pine Bluffs.
