Predicting Michigan's 2020 football recruiting class

Six months before Signing Day, here's how we predict the Wolverines' class could look.

I have a love-hate relationship with recruiting.

I love to know about the next crop of Wolverines, but I hate the daily following of the whims of teenagers. It’s not that I fault them for their whims, for we were all teenagers once ourselves, and can only imagine how we might’ve behaved if showered with such public affection at such a young age. It’s just that I kind of feel like the men my age showering them with such affection should know better than to do so.

Thus, I follow the kids that look close to committing, and then after they do. But up and until then I just can’t get emotionally invested in the daily ups and downs as they’re making this decision. Being a parent of three kids has taught me that.

However, with June here, if history is any indication this will be one of the most prolific recruiting months of the cycle between all the visits and commitments. So just for fun, I decided to take a layman’s stab at predicting now who will be in Michigan’s 2020 recruiting class when the early signing period arrives six months from now.

Based on my best-guess right now, I believe the Wolverines will have 21 scholarships to offer at that time. And I’m basing the ranking of each prospect on where each currently stands in the 247 Composite. These prospects are listed in alphabetical order.

Based on their current rankings (and players will rise and fall between now and Signing Day), the 247 Class Calculator would give these 21 signees a score of 267.46. In 2019, that would’ve been the #14 class in the country according to 247 Sports. However, all the classes ahead of Michigan’s except one, Auburn, had at least two more signees than the 21 the Wolverines end up with here.

That tells you that per player rating of this class would be pretty good. Because unless you’re landing a filthy amount of 5-stars, it’s difficult to land a top 10 class with only 21 prospects signing on.
