East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State released its 2019-20 men's basketball schedule on Friday afternoon, highlighted by 13 games against teams that appeared in the 2019 postseason, including 11 against NCAA Tournament teams.  In addition, five opponents are ranked in either the Sporting News, ESPN, NBC Sports.com or CBS Sports Preseason Top 25 polls.

The 2019-20 schedule features a 20-game Big Ten Conference and a 17-game home schedule, along with appearances in the Champions Classic, the Gavitt Tipoff Games, the Maui Invitational and the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

This will be the second-straight year the league will play a 20-game conference schedule, with each team playing seven opponents both home and away and then playing six opponents once (three at home and three away).

MSU will play both home and away against Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Big Ten opponents to visit the Breslin Center include Iowa, Ohio State and Rutgers, while the Spartans will play road games against Indiana, Nebraska and Purdue.

Eleven opponents appeared in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including non-conference opponents Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall and Duke, as well as conference foes Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin.  Two opponents played in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament, Indiana and Nebraska.

The Spartans open the 2019-20 season on Tuesday, Oct. 29, hosting Albion College in an exhibition game at the Breslin Center.  The matchup features MSU senior guard Cassius Winston (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) facing the team that includes his two brothers, sophomore guard Zach Winston and freshman guard Khy Winston.

The regular season starts on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with the Spartans playing Kentucky in the State Farm Champions Classic on ESPN.  The game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Big Ten Tournament returns to Indianapolis, from Wednesday, March 11 to Sunday, March 15 at BankersLife Fieldhouse.

Times and television for all games will be announced at a later date.

Michigan State finished the 2018-19 season with a 32-7 overall record and advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for a nation’s-best eighth time in the last 21 years.  The Spartans won a share of the Big Ten Regular Season title, captured the Big Ten Tournament title, beat rival Michigan three times and won the NCAA Tournament East Regional with a thrilling victory over No. 1 seed Duke.
