Answering your #5 Michigan State Football Questions and Emails…

Hondo can you give me your three biggest weaknesses and three biggest strengths for the team next year? I read someone else’s and would love to see yours. Peggy Downing

Hi Peggy. Strengths? QB, LJ Scott WR OFFENSE. DB, LB & DT DEFENSE. P, K & LS SPECIAL TEAMS. Weaknesses? How about question marks? C, Special Teams not mentioned as a strength and DE depth.

Hondo I have always enjoyed your work. One of my favorites is your pre-season report. I can’t wait. Any idea when it is coming and can you give us an early prediction on a regular season record? Ken Burke

Hi, Ken. Thank you for the kind words and loyalty. I have the Spartans going 11-1. If that happens (even with the one loss coming in the B1G East) I think they go back to the Big Ten Championship game.

Hondo is there a name that no one is talking about on offense that you think should be getting attention and you think will have a great 2018? Chris McDonald

Matt Sokol. Super kid, great player and 2018 is going to be his year. Has super chemistry with Lewerke.

Hondo I read on Twitter that MSU has the 5th best odds of winning the Big Ten Championship according to Vegas. They said Ohio State 10/11, Wisconsin 5/2,
Michigan 4/1, Penn State 5/1 & Michigan State 12/1. Thoughts? Keith White

I can see the case for four of those teams. Michigan being there is preposterous, but par for the course.

Hondo what is the ceiling in your opinion on Luke Campbell our offensive tackle? I really like him, but I do not understand the intricacies of how the line works. David Clubb

I think Luke is a very special player. I expect him to be an All-Big Ten player in 2019.

Hondo, any surprise breakout players you expect on the D Line this year? I heard J. Alexander is supposed to be doing well. Thanks, Nick Vitale

Justice certainly is poised to be a breakout player, but another DL name is DeAri Todd. Keep an eye out for him.

Hello Hondo, As far as another QB option for the ‘19 class, I know you wrote recently about Sam Saxon out of Austin, TX...what do you know/or think about QB Mariano Valenti? (Played at Brother Rice and will be at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fla this fall for his senior year). Any idea if he’s on the radar? Regards & Go Green! John Gieselman

He is absolutely getting a look right now. MSU is digging deep to make sure that they look under every rock. Right now the frontrunner for that spot is Sam Saxton from Austin, Texas. But Saxton is NOT a done deal and Valenti (and a couple of others) are getting a long hard look. As we speak.

Hondo I really like the QB out of Texas Sam Saxton. Any clarification as to when he is making his OV? Greg Turner

Yes, he will be in town at the end of this month. He is the front-runner right now for that MSU QB offer, but that is not a done deal.

Hondo, how would you compare the potential for the 2018 Spartans against the performance of the 2017 team, Thanks, Tim Price

This year’s team has limitless potential while last year the team reached their ceiling. This has the makings of an amazing season. I think the 2018 Spartans are in the driving seat for a Big Ten Title.

Hondo I am not sure what you think of him, but Brett McMurphy on his Twitter reported that MSU has 7/1 odds to return to the College Football playoff. I thought those were fair until I saw UM at 3/1. Is he a slappy? Tim Bryan

Tim Brett is a good guy, but he is reporting what Vegas thinks. Not his thoughts. I would add that Vegas doesn’t care who wins. They are out to ONLY make money. They set those odds to get UM fans to bet. And they are.
