With the in game experience shrinking and ticket sales slumping, this was a big announcement via the SID office. Here is the announcement in its entirety:
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State opens the 2019 football season on Friday, Aug. 30 against the University of Tulsa at 7 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. Fans attending the game will notice several new initiatives and improvements designed to enhance the game day experience in and around Spartan Stadium.
"Enhancing the fan experience continues to be a priority for Spartan Athletics," said MSU Athletic Director Bill Beekman. "In the offseason, we developed several new initiatives, covering areas such as tailgating, concessions, team introductions, and in-game entertainment, all with the intent to provide a better game day experience for our fans and visitors to Spartan Stadium. Football game days at Michigan State are a great tradition, one with the power to create memories for years to come. Our job is to make sure that from the moment people come on campus and throughout the game, we are doing everything we can to make those memories as special as they possibly can be."
Banner graphics honoring each of MSU's 86 first-team All-Americans will be displayed throughout the concourse, along with a "Gruff Sparty" selfie station inside the student entrance and a mural in the north concourse highlighting some of the top plays in Spartan Stadium history. Spartan fans will also notice new field level LED boards placed on both the north and south end zone walls.
Fans of all ages have the opportunity to participate in various activities prior to each home game at the Meijer Fan Fest in Munn Field and in front of IM West. In addition, the WJR Tailgate show, hosted by Steve Courtney, broadcasts live from fan fest in Munn Field three hours prior to kickoff. Live music will also be played at the Meijer Fan Fest at Munn Field.
Hungry and thirsty Spartan fans lining up to purchase concessions will be able to keep track of the action while waiting in line on one of 55 TV monitors that have been installed on the concourse. MSU has not increased concession prices for two consecutive seasons. A new concession item, sure to be a new fan favorite in 2019, is Ben's Soft Pretzels. These Amish-inspired gourmet soft pretzels will be available outside of Section 8.
Spartan fans looking for great deals on officially licensed MSU gear will have the opportunity to shop at the new Sparty's Locker Room locations operated by Dyehard Fan Supply. Also new in 2019, The Tailgate Guys will appeal to fans who are looking for an upscale, reserved, turnkey solution for game day tailgates. For more information, please visit:

For Michigan State students only, there will be a special student ticket sales event at the Spartan Ticket Office located in 1855 Place on Aug. 27 from 1-5 p.m. Members of the Spartan football team and other sports, including the Final Four men's basketball team, will be in attendance to interact with students who are purchasing tickets. Another new feature for MSU students at football games will be the ability to use Combo-X-Change as part of their respective meal plan.
As part of expanded recycling efforts, concession cups will feature new sip lids, replacing plastic straws. There will also be additional recycling bins placed throughout the stadium. For safety, Spartan fans are encouraged to leave glass items at home and remove all spent propane tanks from campus after tailgating.
Michigan State enters the 2019 season ranked No. 18 in the preseason Associated Press Poll and No. 20 in the Amway Coaches Poll. The season opener on Friday, Aug. 30 against Tulsa will kick off at 7 p.m.
