Three Up or Three Down: Grading #19/20 Spartan Football POST CMU

  1. DOWN: Offensive Line The Spartan “Big Uglies” are a terrific group of young people, but they are not producing at the level they did last year. Let alone having taken a step forward. If it was one player that had regressed you could blame this on players, but several?
  2. UP: Defensive Line Chuck Bullough and Ron Burton are the DL coaches and they both have earned a raise. The entire line is playing out of its mind.
  3. DOWN: Brian Lewerke It is impossible to not like Lewerke personally, but he isn’t performing even close to how he did last year. Perhaps the loss of confidence is due to the poor performance of the OL, but he blamed the CMU defense for a PI not called when he made a terrible pass into the end zone for Felton Davis that was intercepted. To make matters worse he had a wide open Andre Welch for a sure fire TD on that play. Dantonio admitted that he was looking for a receiver he had confidence in, but that he missed that one. He ran two in with his feet, but this program has VERY HIGH expectations that are still possible, but not with the way he is playing or the OL.

Wide Receiver depth.  Down four of their top six receivers, after Cody White went down with a broken hand, MSU kept grinding.
