PFG VIBE

Welcome to the conclusion of the 15th week of the NFL’s 100th season and the latest collaboration by Julie Voigt and Russell S. Baxter aka PFG VIBE. That’s Voigt’s Insights Baxter’s Expertise and we consistently bring our passion in covering the National Football League.

So here’s our latest work and the latest installment of our newest weekly staple. Both of us have once again made our picks for the top offensive and defensive players each week, as well as the top performance by a team.

Player and Team. PAT…on the Back.

Here are our Week 15 selections.

Offensive Player of the Week:

VI: QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Those who know me knew this would have been my selection. Despite the opponent on Monday Night Football, there was one person I was rooting for. Brees broke Peyton Manning’s all-time mark for career touchdown passes, which now stands at 541 (and counting). Not far behind is Tom Brady sitting with just 538 TD tosses – one behind Manning. As if the road to the playoffs just isn’t exciting enough!

BE: QB James Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

First, congratulations to Drew Brees as well. But one week after throwing for 456 yards, four scores and three interceptions in a 38-35 victory over the Colts, the fifth-year quarterback totaled 458 passing yards and four more touchdowns (1 interception) in a 38-17 win at Detroit. The Buccaneers have won four straight games and Winston is opening some eyes.

Defensive/Special Teams Player of the Week:

VI: DE Danielle Hunter, Minnesota Vikings

He’s already been named to this year’s Pro Bowl and is certainly a candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Last week, he was co-founder Russell Baxter’s choice here. This season, he is currently third in the NFL with 13.5 sacks. Last Sunday against the Chargers, he totaled five tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

BE: CB Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills

More on Sean McDermott’s team later (courtesy of Julie Voigt). The team ran its record to 10-4 this season (the Bills’ most wins since 1999) and clinched their second playoff berth in three years with a 17-10 triumph at Heinz Field on Sunday night. White had two of the club’s four interceptions of Steelers’ quarterback Devlin Hodges, to go along with four tackles and two passes defensed.

Team of the Week

VI: Buffalo Bills

What more can I say. Playoff bound!! On Sunday, the Bills secured just the second playoff berth this century with a 17-10 victory over the Steelers at Pittsburgh. Sean McDermott’s team has been non-stop since the start of the season and this postseason berth is well-deserved.

BE: Atlanta Falcons

For the second time in six weeks, Dan Quinn’s club is the choice. It wasn’t long ago that the Falcons went into the Superdome and handled the Saints. Now thanks to a six-play, 70-yard drive and game-winning touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones with two seconds to play, the Falcons upended the 49ers at San Francisco. Oh, what could have been in 2019?
