NFL 2019: PAT on the Back (Week 17)

By Julie Voigt and Russell S. Baxter

Welcome to the final edition for the 2019 season of the latest collaboration by Julie Voigt and Russell S. Baxter aka PFG VIBE. That’s Voigt’s Insights Baxter’s Expertise and we consistently bring our passion in covering the National Football League.

So here’s our latest work and the latest installment of our newest weekly staple. However, in this final regular-season edition, we combined our efforts to come up with three selections. Hence our Week 17 picks for the top offensive and defensive player and the best performance by a team.

Player and Team. PAT…on the Back.

Here are our Week 17 selections.

Offensive Player of the Week:

VIBE: RB Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals

Tennessee Titans’ running back Derrick Henry ran wild against the Houston Texans and won the NFL rushing title. Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey became the third player in league history to total at least 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season. But the nod goes to Mixon, who totaled 26 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-23 victory over the Browns – enabling the Bengals to close out a dismal season in winning style.

Defensive/Special Teams Player of the Week:

VIBE: KR Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs

The AFC West champions had just fallen behind, 14-10, in the third quarter at home to the rival Chargers. But just like that, the rookie wideout took the ensuing kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown and Andy Reid’s team regained momentum. The Chiefs would go onto a 31-21 victory, Kansas City’s sixth consecutive triumph.

Team of the Week

VIBE: Miami Dolphins

A team that was thought to be more interested in losing than winning this season wound up winning five of their final nine games after a 0-7 start. But Brian Flores and company saved the best for last in stunning the New England Patriots at Foxborough, 27-24, in a game the defending Super Bowl champions needed to secure the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. A job well done.
