Best guard of the post-WWII era? It's former Colts' star Jim Parker, says Turney

Former Baltimore Colts’ star Jim Parker leads the list of NFL historian John Turney’s best all-time guards of the post-World War II era.

No surprise there. Parker was an eight-time first-team All Pro, an all-decade choice and an anchor of the Colts’ line that protected John Unitas and helped Baltimore to consecutive NFL championships in 1958-59.

“He was the best I ever saw,” said former guard Ed White, who makes Turney’s Top 20.

But here’s what you might not have expected: Included in Turney’s Top 10 are two guards not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame – including one playing today.
