Jerry Kramer: Reaching Hall after 45 years "worth the wait"

TalkOfFame

Few people waited as long ... or went through as much ... to reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame as former Green Bay guard Jerry Kramer.

He was first eligible for Canton 45 years ago and went through 11 trials as a finalist -- including two as a senior candidate -- before he was finally elected two weeks ago as a member of the Hall's Class of 2018. It was an honor long overdue for the only member of the NFL's 50th anniversary team missing from Canton, and it was one that, frankly, he wasn't sure would ever happen.

But happen it did, and Kramer was only too glad to tell us how relieved, excited and exhilarated he is on the latest Talk of Fame Network broadcast.

"It's a wonderful experience," he said. "It was worth the wait. I often was frustrated, angry, gave up on it a couple times and decided it just wasn't for me; that it just wasn't going to happen. So when it finally did, it was awfully sweet. And it's been a wonderful experience so far."

Kramer is one of 12 members of the 1960s' Packers chosen for the Hall and one of two senior candidates elected to the Class of 2018. Former Houston Oilers' great Robert Brazile is the other.

Joining Kramer on this week's broadcast are Hall-of-Fame voters Ira Miller and D. Orlando Ledbetter, with Ledbetter nominating a former offensive lineman as the Atlanta Falcon most deserving of the Hall of Fame. It's part of our "Best of the Rest" series that features Hall-of-Fame voters from all 32 NFL teams naming the players or coaches most deserving of induction.

Miller, a member of the Hall's senior committee, joins us to talk about what's next for that group as it approaches what could be a senior amnesty to celebrate the NFL's 100th anniversary.

Also joining us is former Hall-of-Fame voter Mike O'Hara of DetroitLions.com to talk about that team's hiring of former New England defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and what, if any, impact it has on the future of quarterback Matt Stafford.
