Poll Question 10-8-14 - Toeing The Line
NFL coaches will tell you it’s what’s up front that counts -- that games are won in the trenches. So who was best in the trenches? What was the greatest offensive line ever assembled? Here are your choices:
1960s - Packers. Green Bay won five championships in a span of seven years (1961-67), featuring a Hall of Fame tackle (Forrest Gregg) and center (Jim Ringo) plus a guard named to the 50th anniversary team (Jerry Kramer).
1970s - Raiders. The Raiders won a pair of Super Bowls (1976, 1980) with arguably the best left side ever assembled in Hall of Famers T Art Shell and G Gene Upshaw plus C Dave Dalby.
1980s - Redskins. The Hogs with a rotating cast went to four Super Bowls from 1982-92. Jeff Bostic started all four games at center, G Russ Grimm has been enshrined in the Hall of Fame and Joe Jacoby has been a Hall finalist.
1990s - Cowboys. The Cowboys won three Super Bowls in a span of four years (1992-95) and all five of the primary starters became Pro Bowlers: Hall of Famer Larry Allen, G Nate Newton, T Erik Williams, T Mark Tuinei and C Mark Stepnoski.
