Senior Analysts Rob Rang and Ric Serritella have nearly 40 years of combined experience professionally evaluating prospects for the NFL and after a year spent visiting campuses, watching tape, attending games, all-star practices and Combine training facilities, they have not surprisingly developed some favorites in this talented 2019 draft class.
Hundreds of their scouting reports are being printed for Lindy’s NFL Draft magazine right now (RESERVE YOUR COPY HERE) with a snapshot of each position and some of their favorite players to watch available complimentary of NFLDraftScout.com below.
A First Round Prototype: D.K. Metcalf, Mississippi
When it comes to prototype, Metcalf fits the bill with an impressive combination of size and speed. He’s physically imposing, with a ripped up physique that has gone viral on social media. His height and thick frame allow him to dominate in jump ball situations, as he is very effective at high pointing the ball. In addition, he’s a load to take down in the open field and really gets after it as a blocker in the run game. Despite his 230-pound frame, the legacy player flashes rare speed for a wide out his mold—his grandfather (Terry), father (Terrence) and uncle (Eric) all played in the NFL. A neck injury this past season may scare teams away but a raw talent such as D.K. comes around once in a blue moon.
Second Day (Future) Starter: Andy Isabella, UMass
An undersized speedster, Isabella is a deep threat with legitimate wheels and rare acceleration that defenses have to respect. The one-time track standout ended up re-writing the record books at Amherst, flashing elite speed and instincts, while earning All-American honors. His game is built on change of direction and stopping/starting to use his acceleration to his advantage. A fluid mover, Isabella has proven to be more than a slot option with his separation skills. He has excellent instincts as a runner after the catch and despite his lack of size, he’s difficult to tackle on the run because of the extra gear he possesses. Isabella is Italian for luxury wide out, so don’t be surprised to hear his name called earlier than expected come April.
Third Day Sleeper: Terry McLaurin, Ohio State
A thick-built receiver with excellent power and outstanding blocking ability, McLaurin possesses legitimate timed-speed, strong hands and played more than 40 games for the Buckeyes. In addition, the two-time team captain understands how to find the weak spots in the opposing secondary and does a great job of getting open on broken plays. Former Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer has stated that McLaurin is one of the hardest working players he has ever been around. He’s a pro-ready prospect who brings added value as a special teams gunner and should hit the ground running at the next level because he is a highly coachable player. The Indianapolis native had a tremendous week of practices in Mobile at the Senior Bowl and may have even played his way into the top 100 overall picks.
[BONUS] Injury Designation: Marquise Brown, Oklahoma
Despite a recent Lisfranc injury, which is expected to keep “Hollywood” sidelined through the draft process, his lightning quick speed and game-breaking ability immediately adds the deep ball element to any offense. Brown possesses rare jets, outstanding lateral explosion and excellent vision as a runner after the catch. He is able to stop and start from zero-to-60 like a Lamborghini. While diminutive in size, he’s very difficult to tackle with his great sense of balance and instincts as a runner, with moves on top of moves. There’s still a strong possibility that Brown is the first wide receiver off the board.
