The Dolphins sign Gavin Escobar and place fellow tight end MarQueis Gray on injured reserve, the team announced Thursday

Escobar, who was released by the Dolphins last week, rejoins the team after playing two games with the Baltimore Ravens last season.

The 27-year-old Escobar has recorded 30 receptions for 333 yards and eight touchdowns in 62 career contests since being selected by the Dallas Cowboys with a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Escobar will join A.J. Derby and rookies Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe as the Dolphins open the season against the visiting Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Miami is aiming to rebound from a 6-10 campaign in 2017.

Gesecki, who was a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Penn State, was considered a potential matchup nightmare after lighting up the NFL Combine. The 6-foot-5, 247-pound Gesicki clocked a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash while posting a 41.5-inch vertical, 10-9 broad jump, 6.76 three-cone drill and 4.10 short shuttle.

Gray was listed as a limited participant in Wednesdays practice by the team due to a foot injury. NFL Networks Ian Rapoport reported that the 6-4, 260-pound Gray tore his Achilles during the session.

The 28-year-old Gray caught one pass for 10 yards and rushed five times for 14 yards while playing in all 16 games for Miami last season.
