OUTLOOK: The Temple Owls were the biggest beneficiary of Presbyterian College deciding to discontinue its football program, enabling Ya-Sin to transfer to the City of Brotherly Love for what he possibly (and most others surely) assumed would be his final year playing football. As the legend goes, one magical First Team All-American Athletic Conference season later and Ya-Sin emerged as one of the more intriguing risers of the 2019 NFL Draft, earning invitations to the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl. While the added exposure in Philadelphia certainly helped, savvy scouts were already aware of Ya-Sin, who had started the previous three seasons at Presbyterian and had already tied conference records for the most interceptions in a single season (five) and career passes broken up (24). The yoked-up corner plays a physical brand of football, possesses great size and thrives in man coverage. His outstanding performance against Buffalo and their flashy QB-quarterback-Wide receiver duo of Tyree Jackson and Anthony Johnson grabbed the attention of NFL evaluators with Ya-Sin recording two interceptions (one over-turned due to a penalty on a Temple teammate), among a handful of eye-popping plays. He finished with 47 tackles for the Owls in 2018 with two tackles for loss, leading the team and ranking among conference leaders with 12 passes broken up, as well as two interceptions. Given how well he handled his one season at the FBS level, Ya-Sin is a compelling story and one worth watching as his performances in any senior all-star games and during workouts could play a critical role in determining his final grade.
