Forty bowl games are already part of the college football season, but three more reportedly will be added in two years.

College football reporter Brett McMurphy said in a Facebook post that the NCAA Competition Committee will add three bowl games to the postseason schedule beginning with the 2020 season.

Chicago and Myrtle Beach, S.C., will be the sites for two of the bowls, with the venue for the third yet to be determined.

According to the report, Wrigley Field would host the bowl game in Chicago, which would feature teams from the Big Ten and the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The postseason game in Myrtle Beach is expected to have teams from Conference USA, the Sun Belt Conference or the Mid-American Conference.

The addition of three bowls brings the total to 43 postseason games, including the two College Football Playoff semifinal games and the national championship game.

That means 84 spots need to be filled from among the 130 FBS programs.

The Pac-12 recently passed a rule that prohibits five-win teams from playing in the postseason.

The report also noted that the NCAA Football Oversight Committee is expected to approve a limit on the number of bowl tie-ins any given conference can have. It will be based on the size of the conference.

The Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference would be limited to 10 bowl tie-ins apiece, the Big Ten would have no more than eight tie-ins, the Pac-12 would have seven, and the Big 12 six.
