South Carolina defensive back Javon Charleston has been reinstated to the team following a near-three-month suspension following his assault and burglary arrest.

Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said that he spoke with Charleston before allowing him to return to the team.

I met with him on Sunday and discussed his situation at length. After those meetings, I decided to reinstate him to the team, Charleston said, via The State. As long as he enters the (pretrial intervention program), handles his business and handles some things I (want him to) do as well, then well decide on playing time.

Well decide that at the appropriate time, and thats not right now.

Charleston was arrested in June on one count each of assault and burglary following an altercation with several people at a house.

According to police reports, Charleston was exchanging text messages with a woman prior to the incident. When the woman stopped returning his texts, he entered her house at approximately 2 a.m.

A man was in bed with the other woman, and Charleston chased him from the house following a verbal altercation, per reports.

Charleston was accepted into a pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders and ultimately will see the charges dropped provided he successfully completes the program.

A 6-foot-1 junior, Charleston recorded two fumble recoveries in 13 games last season and led the club with six special teams tackles.

Charleston was a walk-on at the school who received a scholarship in August 2017.
