Tennessee defensive lineman Ryan Thaxton was arrested Sunday and charged with domestic assault and false imprisonment of his girlfriend, multiple media outlets reported.
“We are aware of the incident,” Tennessee football spokesman Zach Stipe wrote in a statement. “The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities while law enforcement and the university investigates.”
Per online records, Thaxton pushed his girlfriend toward his room when she refused to accompany him to his dorm. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound sophomore then carried her inside the dorm room and blocked the door when she attempted to leave, according to records.
Thaxton was ultimately released on $1,500 bond. He is scheduled for a July 23 arraignment on both counts.
Thaxton did not play last season for Tennessee, which opens its season against West Virginia on Sept. 1.
