Mills, Brees top prospects for Hall call

Retired

Linebacker Sam Mills: Mills and Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson formed half of the Saints' Dome Patrol linebacking corps of the 1980s and 1990s, one of the best in NFL history. Mills played nine seasons for the Saints (1986-94) and three for the Panthers (2005-2007). He helped lead New Orleans to its first playoff berth in 1987 and to three more playoff appearances.

Mills led the Saints in tackles five times and was named to four Pro Bowls during his tenure. In Carolina, he led Panthers to the 1996 playoffs and was named a Pro Bowl starter at age 37 in '96. He played three seasons in the USFL before joining the Saints and led the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars in tackling each season.

Still playing

Quarterback Drew Brees: As he prepares to begin his 18th NFL season, Brees already has compiled a first-ballot Hall of Fame-worthy resume. He's on the verge of breaking Peyton Manning's record for career passing yards, has twice broken the record for single-season completion percentage, has led the Saints to six playoff berths, two NFC Championship games and was MVP in New Orleans' victory in Super Bowl XLIV.
