WBB: Ducks stay perfect with 88-58 victory over Utah State

Ruthy Hebard finished with 20 points while Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

After struggling through the first two games of the season, Oregon forward Ruthy Hebard was finally feeling better when the Ducks played Wednesday night.

Hebard’s 20 points and eight rebounds led No. 3 Oregon to an 88-58 victory over Utah State (2-1), improving the Ducks to 3-0 on the season. She went 5-of-6 from the field and 10-of-10 form the free throw line.

Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points and 10 rebounds, notching her second double-double of the season, to go along with her triple-double in the opening game of the year.

The Ducks came out firing, shooting 9-of-12 from the field in the opening quarter for a 30-16 lead. Ionescu was hot for Oregon, going 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to pace the Ducks.

Oregon extended the lead to 49-29 at the break when freshman Taylor Chavez, in her best game of the year, finished with nine points. The guard showcased her ability to play under control and in sync with her much more experienced teammates.

After the half, the Ducks struggled shooting the ball from three-point territory, missing all eight of their attempts. But their backup plan wasn’t bad, feed Hebard down low and let her go to work. She finished with 12 points in the second half, as the Ducks outscored Utah State 39-29.

Chavez finished with 13 points while Erin Boley added 14 and Satou Sabally chipped in 12. Oregon returns to Eugene this weekend when it hosts Buffalo on Sunday, November 18 at 2 p.m. Buffalo (2-0) advanced to last year’s Sweet 16.
