After beginning the season 2-0 on the first day of the Kajikawa Classic, the Ducks returned to the diamond for day two action, this time facing Missouri and Bradley. Oregon defeated Missouri 6-1 and Bradley 13-3 on the day, improving to 4-0 on the season.
Jordan Dail was phenomenal in the win against the Tigers while the offense continued its hot streak against Bradley, finishing with double-digit runs for the third time in four games this season.
OREGON 6 — Missouri 1
Facing its first true test of the season, No. 25 Oregon responded with an all-around team performance in its victory over Missouri. The Tigers were 2-0 entering the game, having dispatched Pac-12 foes Utah and No. 12 Arizona State in run-ruled victories the day before.
For the Ducks, Dail was sensational in the pitcher’s circle, looking more and more comfortable in her role as ace of the staff.
She threw 7.0 innings, giving up six hits and one run with six strikeouts — earning her third win of the season.
It wasn’t the offensive explosion the Ducks had in their previous two games, but a disciplined approach at the plate led to nine walks issued by the Tigers.
Haley Cruse got the scoring started in the third inning, giving the Ducks a 2-0 lead, when she and Allee Bunker led off with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt by Rachel Cid moved both runners up. They would eventually come around to score on a sacrifice fly April Utecht and an RBI single by Shaye Bowden.
While Dail continued to work through the Tigers lineup, the Ducks added another pair of runs in the fifth inning. Lexi Wagner got an RBI with a sacrifice fly while Annalisa Williamson’s fielder’s choice plated another run.
Dail ran into a bit of trouble in the sixth when she was tagged for her only run, this time on a solo blast.
Oregon finalized the scoring in the seventh when Hannah Galey, who reached base with a double, came around to score on a Missouri error. Later, Cid drew a bases-loaded walk to complete the scoring.
Bunker finished the game 2-for-4 while Cid added three walks.
OREGON 13 — Bradley 3 (5 innings)
The Ducks picked up their first run-rule victory of the season, defeating Bradley 13-3 in five innings.
Cid led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, adding three RBI’s and a homerun, her third of the season. Wagner and Utecht both finished with two RBI’s while Bunker and Cherish Burks finished with two hits.
Maddie MacGrandle picked up her first win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on three hits. She struck out 10 but walked eight batters as well, throwing 115 pitches in the process.
Bradley jumped all over the Ducks in the top of the first, scoring three runs on a bases-loaded walk and two-out, two-RBI single.
Not to panic, Oregon responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to seize control of a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Two Bradley errors, a sacrifice fly by Bowden and a single by Utecht accounted for the four runs.
Cid added two more runs for the Ducks in the bottom of the second inning, blasting a two-out, 0-2 pitch over the right field
fence to make the score 6-3. Oregon added two more runs in the third when Wagner’s sacrifice fly and Bailey Cook’s single each produced RBI’s.
Leading 8-3 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Ducks shut the door on Bradley with five runs. Utecht, Wagner and Cid all had run-scoring singles while Cruse plated another Duck on a fielder’s choice.
